Finding Your 'Flow State' by Getting Outside.

What is a Flow State?

The term "flow state" was coined by psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi. He identified flow states as moments when people are completely absorbed in an activity and in the moment. Flow states have been associated with a number of benefits which we'll discuss below.

Have you ever been so engrossed in what you're doing that time seems to either speed up or slow down? If so, then you've likely experienced a flow state. Flow states are often associated with peak performance and creativity. When you're in a flow state, you're completely absorbed in what you're doing and your mind is incredibly focused.


There are a few key things that need to be present in order for a flow state to occur. First, you need to have a clear goal or task that you're working towards. Secondly, the task needs to be challenging but still within your skill level. If the task is too easy, you'll likely get bored and your mind will wander. However, if the task is too challenging, you'll likely become frustrated and give up. Finally, you need to have uninterrupted concentration and focus in order to maintain the flow state.
